Fred Darrington was grandfather and tutor to Weymouth’s current sand sculpture master Mark Darrington and the inspiration for the creation of Weymouth’s latest attraction Sand World due to open 22 April 2011.
[...] The sands of Weymouth beach have always been renowned as amongst the finest in the world for sand sculpture and for many years fabulous sand art has been displayed on Weymouth beach. Back in the 1960’s Fred Darrington was creating sand copies of great masterpieces using just Weymouth sand and seawater and this tradition continues to this day, carried on by his grandson.
