In the summer of 2008 Laterooms .com commissioned the building of  the world’s first sand hotel on Weymouth Beach.

The sands of Weymouth beach have always been renowned as amongst the finest in the world for sand sculpture and for many years fabulous sand art has been displayed on Weymouth beach. Back in the 1960’s Fred Darrington was creating sand copies of great masterpieces using just Weymouth sand and seawater and  this tradition continues to this day, carried on by his grandson. Laterooms.com’s sand hotel commission received huge worldwide exposure both online and on TV. For a week visitors were given the opportunity to sleep under the stars on Weymouth beach in the sand hotel.
